• Question
  • Aviva life insurance for retirement

Asked by someone from Lebanon, TN on 8/20/2013

My husband and I own a small business. Recently we got a call about life insurance for retirement income with Aviva. My husband is all for it. I don't feel comfortable with this. Is this a good idea?

  • You're smart to answer this question - the person calling you is likely an insurance salesperson and probably does not have a fiduciary relationship with you. A fiduciary puts your interests above their own. With any major financial decision it's a good idea to discuss it with a professional who has your interests first - that could be a fee only financial advisor who is a fiduciary to you or a CPA.

There are a number of financial products that can generate income in retirement and many are good, but many also have high fees and are not efficient, so it's best to do your research.
