  • Sometimes the good financial decisions don't make the best personal or emotional decisions. While the good financial decisions might easily be agreed to, if the emotional considerations are not discussed or if any one of the parties involved in the decision don't feel like their concerns have been genuinely understood by others, the financial reasons can tend to have little meaning.

The reverse is also true. A good personal decision may fall on deaf ears if the other party believes the proper financial issues have not been adequately addressed. And sometimes it's hard to voice concerns if one party doesn't think anyone is really listening. So the best approach to any decision-making process might be to begin by listening to other's concerns, because what's important to them is what is important to address.
