  • Over 55 communities can be GREAT places to retire. My own mother lives in one and she absolutely loves the amenities.

But you are absolutely right to want to investigate your options very carefully. Where you live has a huge impact on your quality of life.

I could not find a single resource offering reviews of over 55 communities. However, you might want to try a few of these resources:

    1) I would recommend that you start by identifying a handful of communities that appeal to you. Here are a few web sites that offer directories of over 55 communities:
    -- http://www.activeadultliving.com/

    2) You might also want to call a few local real estate offices and ask them if they have any agents who specialize in over 55 communities. If you can find a good agent then he or she can be an invaluable resource in helping you assess your options!

    3) Once you have identified communities that appeal to you, you can arrange to have tours and see units. During these visits you should try to chat with residents.

    4) You might also want to try plugging in your targeted communities into review sites like yelp.com.
